Year 3
This half term’s topic is called ‘A Force To Be Reckoned With’. This topic will have a focus on Science, through learning about forces and magnets. We will also be reading the classic novel ‘ The Iron Man’.
In English we will read the story of The Iron Man and A Dark Dark Tale to support us in learning how authors write for suspense and tension. We will learn about the features of suspense writing and write our own suspense narrative and will listen to and read poetry as well as write and recite our own poems to an audience.
In Maths, we will Use the formal written methods of columnar to add numbers with up to three digits and learn mental strategies to add and subtract numbers up to three-digits. We will learn explicit problem-solving skills such as working backwards. We will collect and represent data and interpret and present data in a range of ways (pictograms, tables, bar charts).
In Science we will focus on forces and magnets. We will explore magnetic and non-magnetic materials and understand how magnets work and why they are used. We will observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others.
In RE we will be learning about Buddhism with a focus on stories with morals.
In Music we will be learning different sound tracks and Foley music and will be experimenting with creating sound effects.
In Computing we will be further exploring what an algorithm is and use this knowledge to create a variety of different coding algorithms.
In Art and Design Technology we will learn about different artists who use drawing and collage to create their art. We will use shading to create pattern, contrast and a 3D effect and create a mixed media drawing.
