Year 3
This term, in Year Three, our half term topic is ‘Good to be Green’. We will be learning about the environment and landscapes around the United Kingdom and the different ways that we can make better choices with helping the planet.
In English we will look at a wishing tale – the King of Fishes and create our own stories based on this. We will begin to use persuasive language to write an advert and a leaflet. We will focus on using conjunctions, present perfect tense and construct paragraphs.
In Maths, we will continue to count in 3s, 4s, 6s and 8s and begin to count in 8s, making links to number patterns we already know. We will learn the formal method of column subtraction and learn about money and how different amounts can be made from coins and notes.
In Guided Reading we will discuss the purpose of a contents page and learn the features of non-fiction texts. We will continue to develop our inference skills and discuss the author’s choice of vocabulary within a text.
In RE we will be learning about Islam, specifically the festivals of Ramadan and Eid. We will be discovering why Muslims fast during Ramadan and how this act brings them closer to god. We will find out what a typical day during Ramadan may look like and how Eid is celebrated.
In Music we will be recognise different styles of pitch, sounds and symbols and be creating musical patterns to follow. We will learn and understand how to use graphic scores.
In Computing we will be learning about the various physical components of a device and how these connect to form a network. We will then discover how networks share information and how we use this information, for example the internet.
In Geogrpahy we will use atlases and Google Maps to find and name different hills and mountains in the UK. We will learn about coasts and rivers within the United Kingdom and discuss land use in our local area and visit Woolwich Arsenal to see how local land has been used.
