Year 3

This half term’s topic is called ‘A Force To Be Reckoned W ith’. This topic will have a focus on Science, through learning about forces and magnets. We will also be reading the classic novel ‘ The Iron Man’.

In English we will Read the story of The Iron Man to support us in learning how authors write for suspense and tension and learn about the features of suspense writing and write our own suspense narrative. We will listen to and read poetry as well as write and recite our own poems to an audience.

In Maths we will learn mental strategies to multiply and divide numbers up to three digits and learn different methods to complete multiplication and division problems. We will compare different angles, horizontal and vertical lines and discover the difference between perpendicular and parallel lines

In Science we will focus on forces and magnets and will explore magnetic and non magnetic materials. We will be focussin on understand how magnets work and why they are used. We will observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others.

In Music we will  be learning different sound tracks and Foley music. We will be experimenting with creating
sound effects.

In PE we willexperience going swimming to a local swimming pool and learn how to swim and be safe in a swimming pool or near water. We will practice strokes such as front crawl and back stroke. In Outdoor PE we will begin to throw and catch through playing rounders and learn how to field by using techniques such as creating a barrier.

In Computing we will be using further exploring what an algorithm is and use this knowledge to
create a variety of different coding algorithms.
